Manchester City started the 2018/19 English Premier League with a victory over Arsenal on Sunday. Whilst the Blues were not at their best, they overcame the Gunners in what was a rather straight forward affair. New signing Riyad Mahrez made his debut for the club, and fan-favorite Phil Foden found the bench.
A few of City’s players were unlucky, however, as they did not travel with the senior team for this season’s opening match. Danilo and Eliaquim Mangala are still sidelined with their respective injuries. Youngsters Oleksandr Zinchenko and Brahim Díaz, who have decided to remain at the club to fight for their place, did not feature. Fabian Delph and David Silva did not travel.
Yet, outside of these aforementioned players, it is possible a few more members of the senior team will depart before the end of the month. Whilst the English Summer 2018 Transfer Window closed last Thursday, continental Europe will still see some transfer drama in the final few weeks of August. As a result, this could see some of City’s forgotten players depart from the club before the end of the month.
One of these players is Jason Denayer. The young Belgian center back, who has been with Manchester City since 2014, has yet to make an appearance for the senior team in a competitive match. Throughout this period, he has been on loan to three different clubs, where he became a favorite at Turkish side Galatasaray.
The Belgian, however, is opposed to being loaned for a fifth season, as he would like a permanent move. According to reports, the young center back has rejected a few potential loan opportunities, as his desire is to return to Galatasaray on a permanent deal.
Another player who is desperate to move is Patrick Roberts. Albeit not as hectic as Denayer’s loan spell, Roberts has spent his entire City career on loan to Celtic. From 2016-2018, the young Englishman made 51 appearances in the Scottish Premiership, and has scored 15 goals. Due to these performances, the Scottish club is actively pursuing the midfielder in an attempt to sign him before the close of this summer’s transfer window.
Meanwhile, other reports suggest Roberts could be sent on loan to a club in Spain or France. Regardless of the outcome, it seems the young midfielder will have a few options.
Therefore, based on these reports, and given their recent history with the club, perhaps it is best they move on. With a few weeks remaining in the European Summer 2018 Transfer Window, anything is possible.
