After what has seemed like an eternity of waiting, it seems Manchester City are finally on the verge of completing the double signings of Riyad Mahrez and Jorginho.
Leicester City have apparently accepted a £60m bid from the blues to sign Algerian winger Mahrez, with many outlets reporting he will have a medical with City later this week. Mahrez was the subject of a bid by the blues on transfer deadline day, but the move fell through as the two clubs could not agree a fee.
Since the end of the season in May, Mahrez had been increasingly linked to the blues, but now it seems the winger will not get his wish and will line up for the Premier League champions next season.
As for the transfer of Jorginho, it now looks like the Italian international is also finally on his way to Manchester after Napoli omitted the midfielder from their pre-season training camp. In addition, Real Betis midfielder Fabian Ruiz, who has been touted as a replacement for Jorginho, will undergo a medical with the Italian club.
The deal was supposed to have been wrapped up before the world Cup began, with Jorginho’s agent repeatedly expressing the midfielder will be wearing a City shirt next season. However, as with Mahrez the sticking point seems to have been the price, and it is rumoured that a £48m fee has now been agreed.
Once complete, the signings will come as a welcome relief to City fans, who have seen United sign Fred and Liverpool capture Fabinho, two former targets of Pep Guardiola.
Will both players sign for the blues this week? Will they be the last? If not, who would you like to see join them? Let us know your thoughts.
