Manchester City have turned their efforts to strenghten the team to Mateo Kovacic. From the Mirror: “Real Madrid’s Croatia international, Kovacic is one of the midfielders on the champion Blues ‘ list of alternatives in case they miss out on Napoli star Jorginho. City have contingency plans in place with boss Pep Guardiola having identified landing one more midfielder as one of his summer priorities.”

Kovacic is of course, performing in the World Cup and has a semifinal match versus England tomorrow, so it’s highly unlikely anything is done soon.

With City being after one more midfielder and the Jorginho deal being dragged on with seemingly a new development every day, this is an intriguing possibility.

Kovacic is a good midfielder and while he has not been able to break into Real Madrid’s starting 11 consistently, he could have a shot at City with an aging Fernandinho.

If the money is right this could make sense for both parties and help make the team’s depth that much better.
