Day 7 at the World Cup saw Portugal and Spain in action, with two blues two Silva’s taking part. Portugal’s Bernardo Silva played 59 minutes of his team’s 1-0 win over Morocco, a result that sent the North African team home. Portugal face Iran in the final group game, where victory will see the Portugese through.

David Silva’s Spain also recorded a 1-0 win in their match against Iran and need a draw against Iran to secure their place in the knock-out phase. Silva played the full 90 minutes against the Iranians in a tough match that pushed the Spanish all the way.

Day 8 saw Benjamin Mendy’s France secure qualification with a 1-0 win over Peru. Mendy was an unused substitute, but it was rumoured City target Kylian Mbappe who scored the only goal of the game in the 34th minute.

Argentina then took centre stage against Croatia, with Nicolas Otamendi and Sergio Aguero representing the blues. However the Argentines are facing an early trip home after suffering a 3-0 defeat. Former blue Willy Caballero miskicked when trying to chip Ante Rebic and the Croat hammered the ball past him. Aguero was substituted a minute after the goal, but Argentina went on to score another two, and Otamendi was booked as he kicked the ball at the face of an opposition player who lay on the floor.

Argentina now must beat Nigeria and hope Iceland draw their two fixtures, otherwise the two blues will be going on an early holiday.

Day 9 sees City’s Brazilian quartet face Costa Rica in the early kick-off on Friday, while former blue Aleksander Kolarov’s Serbia face Switzerland.
