“At the moment, Jorginho is still under contract but if Napoli were to reach an agreement with City, the player will go to Manchester,” Joao Santos said. “Agreeing terms with the English club won’t be a problem, given how big a club they are, but like I say, it depends on Napoli now, considering the player’s contracted to them for a further two years.”
“City are English champions and they are among the best clubs in Europe. We just need to remain calm and if Napoli and City reach a solution, we can talk about it, otherwise the player will be happy [to stay] at Napoli”
It is understood Jorginho is keen to join the blues and work with manager Pep Guardiola despite having another two years left on his contract. The blues are looking for a long term replacement for Fernandinho, who turned 33 earlier in May, and had previously viewed Shakhtar Donetsk’s Fred as a possibility.
And with Yaya Toure having played his last game for the blues, Guardiola will be keen to wrap up a deal for Jorginho sooner rather than later. The midfielder has faced City already, when the blues won 4-2 in Naples in the Champions League last November.
