Man City Rekindling Interest In Riyad Mahrez

Man City going back for Mahrez? According to the Mirror, Manchester City are set to go back in for Riyad Mahrez of Leicester City. Mahrez was high on Pep Guardiola’s radar in the winter, but a deal fell through disappointingly when Leicester City refused to sell Mahrez and rejected City’s £60 million dollar bid. According to these reports, Man City have put Mahrez on the top of their list in their search for another winger. Man City are eager to find depth for Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane.

Ryan Bertrand Back On Man City’s Radar: According to the Mirror, City might be looking at Ryan Bertrand again. Bertrand was a target last summer, and according to reports, was close to joining City along with Benjamin Mendy. A deal fell through and City ended up converting Delph to LB, which worked out well. However, City want “top class cover at each position” according to these latest reports, and feel that going after another left back is good cover for Benjamin Mendy.

De Light To Replace Kompany? According to Sam Wallace of the Telegraph, Manchester City officials were in Amsterdam on Wednesday to meet City’s chief dutch scout Kelvin De Lang to discuss Matthijs De Light of Ajax. The young 18 year old center back is one of the top prospects in Europe at his position. It is said that Txiki Bergirstain and Sam Worthington are their personally monitoring the situation. De Light is expected to play in a match Thursday, it is unknown if City officials plan on staying for the match. De Light has been valued at £50 million and is expected to be a hot commodity on the open market.

Joe Hart Moving Permanently To West Ham United? According to the Mirror, West Ham are interested in keeping Joe Hart on a permanent deal. The Manchester City loanee has apparently impressed David Moyes with his play and professionalism. Hart was dropped for 13 matches early on in the year, in favor of Spanish keeper Adrian. Hart has responded well and has had a strong end to the season, which included inspiring performances against Chelsea and Southampton, helping them gain 4 points in those two matches and out of the relegation zone.

My Take: Mahrez is the most likely to come true of all of these rumors. Pep is a huge admirer of the player and Man City have heavily pursued Mahrez already. Theres a huge need on the team right now for competition at the winger position. Mahrez fits in perfect, it will just depend on the price. Not sure I fully buy the Bertrand rumors, but the City correspondents believe it to be true. City correspondent Jose Alvarez took to twitter defending the story, saying “City’s interest is real with conditions being Southampton get relegated, and Delph or Zinchenko leave”. Still not sure if this move happens, but it is good to monitor the situation. De Light could happen, just not sure if it will happen in the summer, given the talent and depth at CB already. We wish Joe Hart the best no matter where he ends up.
