Manchester City defeated Leicester on penalties in the Carabao Cup quarter-final for the second-consecutive season after an entertaining game at the King Power Stadium. A game that went to the literal end saw the Blues emerge victorious.
The game finished 1-1 after 90 minutes but Aro Muric saved two in the shoot-out, before Oleksandr Zinchenko fired home the winning kick to make it 3-1 and send City into the semi finals. One more thing to note were Sergio Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne returning to action and playing well.
Muric was just fantastic this match and showed much promise. As did new boy Eric Garcia who was handed his first minutes as a City player. For a 17-year-old he more than held his own and played solid.
Now, on to the reaction!
Pep Guardiola Reaction
”It was a tough game but that is normal - it is always difficult at Leicester,” said the boss.
“We played with Kevin (De Bruyne) and Sergio (Aguero) who cannot play the full 90 minutes We played with a guy (Eric Garcia) who is 17 years old and Aro who is 20.
“We made quite a good performance. Of course, we had chances to win the game before.
“It was the same last season when we won with penalties thanks to Claudio (Bravo). This year it was Aro.
”Raheem took that decision [to chip his penalty], unfortunately he missed it but that is OK.”
Eric Garcia Reaction
“I still can’t believe it. It was amazing experience and I was really happy,” said the 17-year-old.
“All the squad helped me in the game and beforehand, especially the other central defenders like Nico, John, Vincent and Aymeric.
“I would prefer to win the normal way, but these games are very difficult. You cannot relax for a second because these teams are really good.”
