Manchester City took care of business in the Ukraine. With devastating counter-attacks, creativity in bunches, defensive walls and clinical finishing it was one of the City’s best performances of the season.

It is a display that has to have had delighted Pep Guardiola with goals from David Silva, Aymeric Laporte and Bernardo completing a fantastic 3-0 win. El Mago’s goal was of great brilliance as was Bernardo, who was on the pitch a short time before scoring.

All in all a great day that leaves us top of the group.

Pep Reaction

“First half we were outstanding,” he said. “We made a very good performance. We controlled it.

“Second half, they push a lot with five, six players in front. It was complicated but every time we regained the ball and ran, we made a good chance on the counter attack.

“It’s an amazing result. We have recovered [from defeat to Lyon] with the result in Germany and here.

”It’s in our hands. Win our games at home and we will be in the next stage.”

“If we can beat Shakhtar next game, they cannot get it [qualification],” he said.

”We want to finish first in the group.

”After defeat to Lyon, we were under pressure. Today we played really good. We were able to win here. Today we played very good.”

David Silva Reaction

Silva said: “I think we are playing better every game. We need to improve a little bit more but we are in a good way. If we play like this, we will get more points.

”We could have scored a lot of goals. We scored three and we had a lot of chances, so we are happy with three points.

“The Champions League is difficult, and this is tough place to come but we did really well today, so we are happy.”

Silva’s midfield colleague Fernandinho was another to shine on his return to his former club.

And the Brazilian said it was a measure of City’s quality that the hosts were largely kept at arms’ length.

Fernandinho said: “I’ve come here and seen so many faces and friends. I’m glad to be back here. It was an important game for us.

“They have a lot of good, attacking players. They make the game so hard.”
