Fred: I’m hoping Pep Guardiola calls me soon

Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred says he is hoping to receive a phone call from Pep Guardiola after being linked with a move to Manchester City.

Recent speculation has claimed City could move for the Brazilian in the summer as they seek to strengthen in midfield.

Yaya Toure is expected to depart at the end of the season, while Fernandinho is also out of contract, although there have been claims he has already signed a new deal.

Manchester United and Arsenal have also been linked with Fred, although he seems pretty keen on a move to City.

“For sure, I would grow a lot with him [Guardiola],” he said. “I have a lot of room to grow.

”I have not received (his call) yet, I’m just eagerly waiting. He’ll call me soon!”

Fred was part of the Shakhtar side that beat City 2-1 in the Champions League in December, still the club’s only defeat this season so far.
