Man City to swap Aguero for Griezmann
Today’s rumors start with news that Manchester City are apparently considering swapping Sergio Aguero for Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann.
According to The Sun, Atleti want to bring Aguero back to Madrid and Pep Guardiola quite fancies bringing in Griezmann in a swap deal.
The tabloid even quotes a ‘source’ as saying: “Atletico have contacted Sergio’s representatives to see if there is any chance of getting him back. Pep doesn’t want him to go, but has been looking at bringing in Antoine Griezmann, so there could be something there.”
Make of that what you will.
Laporte move inching closer
Over at the rather more reliable Telegraph, the news is again that City will wrap up a deal for Aymeric Laporte before the close of the transfer window.
Athletic Bilbao have tried their best to get Laporte to stay but he has decided he wants to leave and City will activate his £57 million release clause.
The club now have until next Wednesday to seal the deal, before the transfer window slams shut until the summer.
City and United to battle for Seri
Meanwhile, the Mirror brings news that Manchester City will have to battle rivals United for the signature of Nice midfielder Jean Michael Seri.
Both clubs have apparently made enquiries about the midfielder and City, having lost out on Alexis Sanchez to United, do not want to lose another player to the Red Devils.
Seri is expected to cost around £35 million, although City are also still monitoring Shakhtar Donetsk’s Fred.
Sterling the next to sign on at City
January has seen a raft of contract renewals for Manchester City’s stars and the next player to be handed a new deal is Raheem Sterling.
According to the Mirror, the club want to start talks over a new long-term deal which will keep him at the club until 2023.
Sterling is also expected to be handed a pay rise that, including bonuses and incentives, will take him upto £275,000-a-week.
