Pep Guardiola said Manchester City’s 3-2 Carabao Cup win over Bristol City could prove to be a useful lesson for his side when they resume Champions League duty.

City headed into the game with a 2-1 lead in the tie after the first leg and then goals from Leroy Sane and Sergio Aguero seemed to have put them in complete control.

However, Bristol pulled a goal back and then made it 2-2 in stoppage time, before Kevin De Bruyne hit back straight away to seal a 3-2 win.

Speaking after the match Guardiola admitted his team may have learnt a valuable lesson against the Championship side.

“We lost control,” he said.

”We played amazing in the first half and in the second half until we led 2-0.

”But after we lost control, maybe it will be good for us, for the Champions League against Basel, to learn that you have to play for 90 minutes and anything can happen.”

City will now play either Chelsea or Arsenal in the Carabao Cup final on February 25 and before then will face FC Basel in the first leg of their last 16 tie on February 13.
