Manchester City have signed a host of attack-minded players this summer— Kyle Walker, Benjamin Mendy and Bernardo Silva are all players known for their offensive prowess.

With so many players that can go forward, City need someone who can do the dirty work while the magicians perform their tricks; who better than Sergio Busquets?

According to Spanish radio station Onda Cero, Manchester City have made an inquiry regarding the availability of Busquets from Barcelona. The midfielder is the embodiment of Pep Guardiola and his footballing philosophy. Having groomed the player in his time with the Catalans, Pep knows Busquets well and has played a huge part in making him the best defensive midfielder on the planet.

Having just lost Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain for an eye-watering €222 million, it is unlikely that Barcelona lets go of another lynchpin from their squad.

While the move is not likely to materialise, it gives us an idea of what Pep wants from his players and what kind of profiles the club is targeting.

Having lost Fernando to Galatasaray, there is a spot in Manchester City’s squad for a defensive midfielder. A player like Busquets is a necessity in Pep’s side, and it’s hard to count only on 34-year-old Yaya Touré for the entire season.

Busquets may not arrive, but the club looks set to explore the possibility.
