Following his City debut last Friday, Bernardo Silva spoke with the media and gave his thoughts on a number of topics.
After moving to Manchester City from Monaco and being joined by Benjamin Mendy, Bernardo was asked about another young star joining City from the French champions. Of course that would be the 18-year-old sensation Kylian Mbappé. The youngster has been on City’s radar all summer and Bernardo has added even more fuel to the fire by saying he’d love to have Mbappé at City.
"I haven't spoken to Mbappé -- but he is a great player as well. I would love to have him here, and you never know, but that is for City to decide.”
"He can be a superstar -- in fact, I think he is already a little bit of a superstar. He is a great player to play with because he is so intelligent with his movement.”
"It is perfect to have someone like him when you're a midfield player because he is very fast, very clever, and a good finisher.”
Bernardo knows better than perhaps anyone just how good the young striker is and can be. City have been in the market for help at the forward position but haven't had much breakthrough with any targets. As the summer window creeps towards its close, Pep Guardiola is going to have to make a decision quite soon on what to do for depth at forward this season.
While playing with familiar teammates and working under Pep Guardiola might tempt Mbappé, it’s still going to take a massive fee of 180 million euros to actually sign him, which is too much money, even for City. Should City go all in for Mbappé? Bernardo Silva certainly thinks so.
