You won’t be getting one of these to work. Sorry.

Hello! We are Bitter and Blue, SB Nation’s Manchester City blog, and we are currently looking for writers. We have a very thin staff at the moment, and we want to expand so we can provide even more content about the club.

We are currently looking for writers who can do the following:

Breaking News (3-6 people)

This is the key thing we are looking for. Transfer season or not, there are plenty of City news breaking all the time, and we need people who are able to cover it. You need to be available every day to do it at least once a day, and the content you write has to go up very quickly. There’s no glamour in this kind of coverage, but this is crucial to our life as a site. Readers need to know that if something happens with City they can come to our site and read about it, and if you’re able to provide the news to them, they’ll begin to trust you as a source for City content.

Tactical coverage (1-2 people)

This is also a very important aspect of a blog’s life and we want to implement this into our coverage. If you are someone who understands tactics, strategy and can break down a game in depth, but at the same time communicate it in language that anyone can understand, you’ll be able to differentiate yourself from most people. Not a lot of websites offer tactical commentary on City games, and if you do it in an engaging, simple and compelling manner, you’ll become someone people will want to read so they can understand why Pep has used certain tactics in each game.

If you think you can do this, you need to be able to provide 1-3 pieces of writing a week, as your job will be to cover every game from a tactical standpoint.

Requirements

First and foremost, you have to be dependable. Doesn’t matter how talented you are, you need to be someone we can count on. If you’ve committed yourself to writing every day or at least two, three times a week, you need to do that. Being a regular contributor is key.

Second, you need to be okay with little or no compensation. We do not have the largest of budgets, and with the number of people we want to bring in, we will not be able to pay everyone what they deserve. But if you show commitment and work ethic, you could get better compensation in the future. That’s how it works for everyone.

Third, you need to have fun! We are not a news organization and we don’t need to be, and while we have some rules about how we must conduct ourselves as writers and content creators, we get the chance to talk about our favorite team every day and/or week. Don’t ever think you need to be overly serious or analytical about things. After all, we’re all fans and we can be really happy, really sad or really angry with our team depending on what’s going on. We’ll talk on Slack all the time about City and what will be posted on the site, and the way you feel about things should impact your writing. You’re a fan, this is a fan website, and you should write as a fan.

So do you think you have what it takes to write for us or want to find out more? Please email me no later than August 10th. Please put “I want to write for Bitter and Blue” in the subject, as well as the type of writing you want to provide (Breaking News or Tactical Coverage). What we’ll do at that point is send an email out to anyone who is interested with next steps, which will include you writing a not-for-publication piece or two we assign you, so we can get a sense of your style, tone, and knowledge.

If you’ve applied before, feel free to apply again, and if you haven’t, what are you waiting for?
