Manchester City could find a way to pull off the greatest transfer of all time next summer. According to Duncan Castles of the Daily Record, the Blues are working to sign Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi on a FREE TRANSFER next summer.

Castles reports that City have met with Messi’s representatives in a Barcelona restaurant last week to lay the groundwork on a deal for next summer. This is the final year of Messi’s contract with the Catalan club, and even though he has agreed an extension until 2021, the contract is yet to be signed and City would be looking to come in and persuade Messi to move to the Premier League.
This is obviously a huge piece of news, but we have to take it with quite a few grains of salt. First, this is Duncan Castles reporting it, and the name Duncan Castles doesn’t exactly scream “TRUSTWORTHY!” when it comes to reporting on transfers. Second, Pep Guardiola has denied multiple times any interest in signing Messi, and he’s said repeatedly that Messi will retire at Barça.
However, despite all the logical arguments telling us not to believe it, this is Lionel Messi potentially moving to Manchester City so OH MY GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD
