Patrick Roberts spent the last 18 months on loan at Scottish giants Celtic FC and impressed boss Brendan Rodgers. Celtic were unbeaten in the Scottish Premier League last season and Roberts was a key contributor. The 20-year-old then returned to City and has played quite a bit in the two preseason matches in the United States.

It’s still not clear if Roberts will be part of the City first team this season with all the attacking options in the squad, so another move away on loan could be in the cards for the young winger.

If City do decide to loan Roberts out again, Brendan Rodgers would definitely take him.

“It’s something we would look at, Pat would be amazing for here. I think everyone could see that.

“But it all goes down to, one, Manchester City and how they see his future there. He has gone away on tour with them and got some game time. They will make a decision after that.

“Two, the boy might not want to come back. He might want to play in the Premier League if he has somewhere to do that. He might fancy a spell in Europe. But what he knows is that he has a great place here if it comes to that.”

It’s clear the Celtic boss would welcome Roberts back with open arms but he also understands the player’s development could take him to a number of tougher leagues elsewhere in Europe, and there are plenty of clubs in the Top 5 leagues reportedly interested in signing Roberts.

At the moment Roberts seems likely to be at another club by the end of the window, but only time will tell if he’ll be back with Celtic again.
