After signing some really good defenders and a wonderful midfielder in Bernardo Silva, Pep Guardiola is not done with his summer business at Manchester City just yet. He wants an attacker to add more firepower to his squad, and while his biggest target is Arsenal star Alexis Sánchez, he has one alternative.
That alternative is called Kylian Mbappé, the hottest prospect in football today. The French striker exploded onto the scene with AS Monaco last season and has attracted interest from literally every big club in Europe, and it really seems like the 18-year-old could be moving to a continental giant this summer.
At the moment, that continental giant looks to be Real Madrid, who made an insane €180 million offer that was accepted by Monaco. But this deal could not happen because of Guardiola, who has held many talks with Mbappé and has promised him a prominent role at City, which he won’t get at Madrid with the likes of Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema in the team.
According to Le10Sport, which is not the most reliable outlet, City and Monaco have had “intense talks” for a Mbappé transfer, and if Pep is successful in convincing Mbappé to snub Madrid for a move to the Premier League, then a deal could happen.
This is all very theoretical and the outlet reporting this rumor doesn’t give us any reason to believe this is actually the case. Let’s wait for further developments.
