Manchester City have made some great signings this summer, and according to Pep Guardiola, more are on the way. This was stated in his most recent press conference ahead of City’s preseason match against Manchester United.
So who are these players? City are heavily linked with three players right now: Benjamin Mendy, Alexis Sanchez and Danilo. Mendy and Danilo appear to be done. Full-backs are the club’s biggest priority right now, and these signings will strengthen the squad immensely.
Mendy is, without doubt, one of the best young left-backs on the planet right now. His signing will cover the position for years to come. The Frenchman is still training with Monaco, but his move to the Etihad is imminent.
While Danilo has received criticism from supporters of his current club, Real Madrid, he was a highly rated right-back in his days at Porto. Pep Guardiola surely sees something in him that warrants the pursuit of his signature. The deal has moved quickly, and the Sky Blues have already beaten Chelsea in the race for Danilo. The transfer fee will lie somewhere around £25 million, which is affordable for City. Danilo will play as a backup to new signing Kyle Walker and add competition in the right-back position.
City’s third known target is Alexis Sánchez of Arsenal. This will be a tough signing as he is currently playing for a Premier League rival. Arsene Wenger has been extremely stubborn with this deal and would much rather sell the player to a club from another league, and PSG are currently attempting to swoop up the Chilean. Should City miss out on the attacker, another will surely be targeted as Guardiola is looking to add more firepower to the attack.
Now, who is the last target? City will need another left-back to cover Mendy should he be injured or fatigued, but not many names have arisen in the news other than Ryan Bertrand of Southampton. We can only trust Pep and the board to make the right decision.
