Weekend Transfers: Manchester City sign and loan Douglas Luiz, sell Nolito to Sevilla

Were you away for the weekend and missed some Manchester City news? We have you covered!

Did you miss some Manchester City news while you were away this weekend? Worry not, we have you covered! Two transfers have happened over the last few days, one with a player being signed and the other involving someone being sold, and both players are going to Spain. We’ll explain.

Let’s start with the signing because that’s always more fun:

Douglas Luiz has signed for the Sky Blues on a five-year deal. The 19-year-old is one of the most exciting midfielders in the Brazilian league, and City paid around £10 million to secure the signing. While City haven’t announced it yet, it’s already understood that Douglas will be loaned to Girona and will play in La Liga next season. Girona have been purchased by the City Football Group this month and several City players will be loaned to the Catalan club over the next few weeks.

The other transfer over the weekend (actually, Monday) was a sale, and it wasn’t a sale that will make many City fans sad.

Nolito has been sold to Sevilla, who paid City an £8 million fee to secure the signing. The Spanish winger was the first signing of the Pep Guardiola Era, and it’s safe to say Nolito didn’t quite adapt to the Premier League, having zero starts this year and making very few appearances in the last few months of the season. Nolito asked to be sold, and after a number of links to different clubs in Spain, the 30-year-old is now a Sevilla player. Good luck, Nolito!
