Manchester City have signed midfielder Douglas Luiz from Vasco da Gama on a €12 million transfer deal, according to multiple reports in Brazil. Douglas will sign a five-year contract with City and will likely join La Liga side Girona on loan. Girona will be purchased by the City Football Group in the coming weeks. Douglas is no longer a Vasco player, and his contract was officially terminated on Tuesday.
City and Vasco have already agreed the deal, and now the Sky Blues are working with Douglas on the final details of his contract, like performance bonuses and release clause. The 19-year-old is a Brazilian international in the U-20 level and has shined for Vasco this season as one of the most dynamic midfielders in the Brazilian league.
City scouts watched the player multiple times this season and decided to act quickly before any other big European clubs hijacked this deal. City are not just signing Douglas to make profit later, as they see a big potential in the player to be part of Pep Guardiola’s team as early as the 2018-19 season if his loan at Girona goes well next season.
Welcome, Douglas!
