A report from The Independent claims Manchester City are in pole position to sign Chilean international Alexis Sánchez after Bayern Munich reportedly dropped out of the race. The claim is Alexis’ wage demands were too high for the Bavarian club and with the forward out of contract next summer and refusing to resign with Arsenal, it seems a move to City is now likely.
City and Pep Guardiola have clearly set out to strengthen the squad this summer with the likes of Bernardo Silva and Éderson already joining plus the rumored additions of Kyle Walker, Dani Alves and Benjamin Mendy. The forward line is a place most City fans would agree is already strong featuring Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus, Leroy Sané and Sergio Agüero. Despite that, Alexis remains a top target and City are confident they'll get him.
It seems Sánchez wants to work with Pep Guardiola again and the Catalan is keen on bringing the Chilean forward to Manchester. Arsenal have long desired to keep their star forward but risk losing him on a free transfer next summer if they are unwilling to sell right now. The London club might be more likely to sell their prized striker if they could secure a massive £50 million fee and a replacement.
Pep and City are said to be very confident they’ll land their target before the end of the summer window. If City are able to sign Alexis then Pep will undoubtedly boast one of the strongest forward groups in all of world football and we could see a record number of goals out of the side next season.
