Manchester City have been linked to countless full-backs over the last few years, but now it seems the end of the long term search is inevitable.
After the exit of Gael Clichy, a left-back was desperately needed. The fans’ obvious choice was Monaco’s Benjamin Mendy. Luckily, the Frenchman will put pen to paper after he returns from his duties with the French national team.
The reported fee lies around £39.8 million, which is a fair price for how talented the defender is. His contract will last for four years and he will be paid £100,000 per week.
While this is an enormous amount of money to pump into one player, it is worth every last penny. Mendy is a gifted footballer with incredible capabilities when it comes to defending and crossing the ball into the box.
Mendy will return from his international duties on June 13th, and is expected to complete the move to the Etihad then.
There is nothing holding back this deal now. It is almost certainly going to happen. Pep Guardiola is adamant on the player and is continuing to wrap up all of his preferred signings early on. City will be an almost unstoppable force next year if this transfer success continues.
