Pep Guardiola is looking to sign defenders this summer to strengthen his Manchester City squad, and one of the best center-backs in the Premier League could be headed to the Etihad. Or to Stamford Bridge.
City and Chelsea are reportedly the most likely destinations for Southampton star Virgil Van Dijk, who's set to be the next Saints player to be sold to a bigger Premier League club for a ridiculous fee. Liverpool are linked with Van Dijk because Liverpool are linked with every Southampton player, but the Dutchman doesn't fancy playing for the Reds, it seems.
Guardiola is keen on a strong central defender with great passing ability to partner Vincent Kompany and John Stones, and the dream signing is Juventus star Leonardo Bonucci, maybe the best CB on Earth today. He could cost as much as £70 million, so City may decide to pursue Van Dijk, who's a cheaper option at £50 million (kinda).
We all know that the prices are ridiculous, especially for a club like City, so we have to pay anyway. Bonucci is perfection, but Van Dijk isn't a bad option either. I'd settle for him.
Get off, Chelsea.
