The Premier League season has come to an end. Although we are all preparing for a depressing period of no football, Silly Season is back! Who will make a move to the blue side of Manchester?
Alexis Sánchez
This is undoubtedly the most controversial rumor so far. It is being rumored that Arsenal’s star player is seriously considering a transfer to Manchester City, making the club his top priority over the likes of Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich. The thought of this signing has put many supporters on the fence, as the Chilean would help to solve any problems when it comes to scoring goals, but could also hinder the growth of the young talents.
Alexis is a proven goalscorer, and when partnered with Sergio Agüero and David Silva he could do serious damage to opposition. He would realistically play on the wings, but he has also played in the midfield under Guardiola at Barcelona. The worries of hurting the youngsters' development is warranted, but if anyone knows how to rotate a side, it is Pep Guardiola. Leroy Sané, Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus will still see plenty of time on the pitch. Alexis' signing is looking increasingly likely every day, and has the potential to be a season-changing decision.
Fabinho
After the exit of Pablo Zabaleta and Bacary Sagna, City are in dire need of a right-back or two. Monaco’s Fabinho fits the bill perfectly. He has been linked with a move to the Etihad for some time now, but he has further proven himself this season by taking part in Monaco’s stunning title-winning campaign in Ligue 1.
Just days ago, an ‘in the know’ reporter by the name of Gerard Romero stated that City are coming close to striking a deal with the Brazilian. Gerard also called the signings of Sane, Nolito and John Stones last summer, which adds to his credibility. Although he will mostly be used in the defensive line, Fabinho is capable of playing in the midfield as well. He will add fantastic depth to the squad on top of strengthening the defense. This transfer is extremely likely as Guardiola is a strong admirer of Fabinho.
Isco
Isco has been surrounded by rumors of a move to City for years. He was inches from signing for the club until Real Madrid swayed him to the Santiago Bernabéu. Ever since, that happened papers have been reporting that interest from the Sky Blues has not dissipated.
In recent months, the reports have grown stronger and left City supporters feeling as if the man to one day fill David Silva’s boots had been found. However, Isco has just confirmed that he will stay with Los Blancos next season. It would require a turnaround on par with that of Fabian Delph’s transfer to see Isco in a City shirt. This move is very unlikely.
Alex Sandro
Alex Sandro is one of the best full-backs on the planet, no question. He was reportedly close to joining City a couple years back, but instead packed his bags and went to Juventus. City have seemingly decided they will have a go at the Brazilian once more. There is arguably nobody better to hand the left-back role within Guardiola’s side. It is still difficult to tell if there is anything behind this, but if it goes through, it will come with a hefty transfer fee.
Manchester City need change this summer if they are to win the Premier League title next season, and these are only a fraction of the players that the board will be interested in. City fans are in for an interesting transfer window!
