Brazilian goalkeeper Éderson Moraes has been linked with a move to Manchester City for months now due to disappointing form of new signing Claudio Bravo. The Chilean controversially replaced Joe Hart in the summer, upsetting City fans, and to make things worse the move has not gone as Pep Guardiola expected with Bravo being dropped to the bench, with eternal backup Willy Caballero taking over the starting role.
Recent reports claim that Pep has been in contact with Éderson, making personal phone calls to convince him to leave his current club and make the move to City. These conversations may have had a crucial impact on the upcoming talent’s decision as Benfica have reportedly accepted that he will exit the club in the summer.
Éderson's buyout clause sits somewhere around £33 million. This would break the world record for the most expensive goalkeeper transfer in history, a feat currently held by Gianluigi Buffon when he made his move from Parma to Juventus.
This move is looking increasingly likely with each new development. It is quite probable now that Éderson will become Manchester City’s number one goalkeeper next season.
