Sergio Aguero sat on the bench in Manchester City’s most recent matches as manager Pep Guardiola favored new young gun Gabriel Jesus for a starting position. Jesus scored twice against Swansea City on Sunday, rescuing three points for the Sky Blues. In turn, this has raised questions over the Argentine’s future at the Etihad.
When questioned by Goal over his situation, Agüero stated: “Yeah, fine, normal. Sometimes this happens. When you’re on the bench you have to wait for your opportunity. I have three months to do my best and try to help the team and we’ll see what happens with my future.”
This shows that Agüero is evidently worried about his future and is unsure over whether he will remain in a City kit next season.
He was asked about his thoughts on switching clubs, in which he ensured that he desires to stay: “No, no. I have to help the team as much as I can in these three months, afterwards we’ll see what the club wants to do with me.”
Agüero also confirmed he's still got a long contract with the club: “In three years. In three years my contract is up, that’s why I say I’m happy. In these last three months that are left I have to help the club and as I say the club will decide if I have a place or not.”
Sergio has made it clear that he wants to stay, however, it may not be his decision.
Despite this, it is understood by Sky sources that Manchester City are not looking to sell Agüero and want him to remain with the club to contribute to their long-term project.
Although Gabriel Jesus has hit the ground running with three goals in two matches, Agüero has not yet lost his important position in the squad. Supporters should not worry as their title-winning hero will not be shipped out just yet.
