It is fair to say that Manchester City have experienced a rather underwhelming start to Pep Guardiola’s career in the Premier League, however the Catalan is looking to breathe new air into the squad with €200 million worth of signings in the summer, according to a report from German newspaper SPORT BILD.

Pep spent just short of this figure last summer, welcoming big names to the club such as İlkay Gündoğan and John Stones. Despite the new faces, this was only the start of Guardiola’s rebuilding of the Sky Blues.

A majority of the names currently linked to a move to the Etihad play in the defense, making it clear what the manager’s intentions are. Reports claim that two fullbacks, a center back and a goalkeeper will be targeted once the window opens, completely revamping the back line.

The long list of names on Pep’s shopping list could include Benfica’s Ederson Moraes to stand between the sticks, Virgil Van Dijk from Southampton to strengthen the defense centrally, and Spanish trio José Luis Gayá (Valencia), Juan Bernat (Bayern Munich) and Hector Bellerín (Arsenal) to rejuvenate the flanks.

The midfield may receive a few adjustments as well. Portuguese midfielder William Carvalho has been surrounded by rumors of a switch to the Etihad as well. No attacking signings are expected, but the Aubameyang rumors never go away.

Pep Guardiola now has a finer understanding of what his team requires to climb the stairs of success in England and Europe, and he will pursue his needs until he is fully satisfied. His efforts will surely be supported by the endless checkbooks of City's owners.
