It is no secret that Manchester City’s weaknesses lie within the defensive line, most notably the full-back positions, however, new manager Pep Guardiola is looking to strengthen the flanks during the summer with Juventus’ Alex Sandro being linked.
City have been connected to Sandro since he played his football with Portuguese giants FC Porto. The supporters were left with a bitter taste in their mouths when they saw the Brazilian holding up a black and white shirt for the press rather than the Sky Blue shirt.
Guardiola has reportedly resurrected the club’s interest in the defender, hoping to sway the 26-year-old to the Etihad in the next transfer window. The player is rumored to be in talks over a new contract with the Italian club which will discourage fans, but it is possible that he could decide a move to City would be in his best interest.
The left back could be part of a Brazilian full-back duo along with AS Monaco’s Fabinho, who is confirmed to be interested in a move to City. Having two of the best young full-backs in Europe would certainly bring enormous strength into Pep’s renovated defense.
Although this would be a stunning pickup, it is quite unlikely. Juventus are dead set on retaining their talented defender, making it a difficult task for any club to lure him away from the Turin. City may be forced to search elsewhere for a new left-back.
