Willy Caballero is making the most of his time in City’s net. The Argentine keeper, who's now a starter for the team ahead of Claudio Bravo, spoke about the Citizens' outlook on the remainder of this Premier League campaign, and whether or not City can still win the title..
“We are going to fight until the end. We want to be involved in the fight for the title and we will fight until the last game to compete with Chelsea and the others.”
Caballero, who had been reserved for occasional Cup matches until recently, recognized Chelsea’s success in creating a significant gap at the top of the table.
In keeping with the club’s unofficial mantras, Caballero said, “we have to do our job and win the next game. We must go step by step and have a bit of luck to see if Chelsea drop some points.”
Burnley proved that Chelsea can be stopped, or at least slowed down. Liverpool and Arsenal have corrected their respective trajectories after dropping a string of points, while Tottenham Hotspur currently seek an upswing.
The Sky Blues are slightly ahead of the curve after a string of recent wins, including a third victory in a row on Monday's match against AFC Bournemouth that puts City eight points behind the leaders. With a quick front three, an insightful midfield and improved defense, City have a chance.
Willy preferred not to focus on statistics, saying that the club’s overall success is more important than clean sheets or shots blocked.
“We are a big team and we have to focus on big achievements.”
