Gabriel Jesus has been doing comprehensive work to settle in at Manchester City. When asked by Man City's official website if he expected such quick success in England, he said, “I am very surprised — although I work a lot every single day, with everyone’s support, in order for [the results] to happen.”
Jesus' arrival has coincided with a quickening of the entire squad’s step and a widespread sense of positivity — as seen in recent matches and this training video of City’s preparations for Monday's match against Bournemouth. Jesus has also studied English with a focus that has caught the attention of manager Pep Guardiola.
“He takes lessons every single day and that means a lot to me,” Pep said. “He wants to settle in the right way. The three games he played he showed a lot of things.”
His manner of moving into the middle of the pitch, making pin-point passes to clench counter-attacks, his energy and authority in the box, and — above it all — his incredible demeanor, has made the Sky Blues brighter in a short period of time.
Many are trying to temper expectations. For example, Fernandinho commented on his young compatriot’s exemplary form and said the entire squad is responsible for supporting the 19 year old Brazilian. Based on the multi-faceted intelligence that Jesus possesses, the hope that he can maintain his current form until the end of the season seems likely.
Whether or not it is reasonable to expect unlimited splendor out of the young man, his initial performances in the City shirt have been absolutely spectacular. So spectacular that even Jesus is amazed. Just like all of us.
