Deadline Day: Manchester City youth prospect Jack Byrne joins Wigan on permanent transfer

Good luck Jack!

Manchester City supporters have been left disappointed as highly rated youth talent Jack Byrne has signed permanently with lower league side Wigan Athletic for an undisclosed fee on Deadline Day.

The Irishman signed a three-and-a-half year contract and has been labelled as “one for the long-term” by Wigan manager Warren Joyce.

The 20-year-old performed well for Cambuur in the Netherlands last year during his loan spell, but his successful form did not continue during his time at Blackburn. This in turn caused him to be recalled back to the Etihad.

Byrne spent five years with City and was seen as a promising midfield player with a possible future in Sky Blue. His exit is rather surprising and has given the people of the blue side of Manchester a bitter taste in their mouths.

It is unknown whether this transfer was done due to the arrival of Yangel Herrera, but that could be possible since Jack’s signing was announced shortly after Herrera's.

Good luck, Jack! We all wish to see you in the Premier League one day!
