Manchester City football is back! Four days after a dominant performance against AFC Bournemouth the Blues return to action with a trip to St. James’ Park for the first meeting of the season with Newcastle on Wednesday night.
The Magpies are the only team yet to face City this season, and they’ll be the ones tasked with stopping the unstoppable destruction machine for the first time this term. The Blues are playing wonderful football, scoring a crazy number of goals and have won 17 Premier League matches in a row, and they’ll be looking to make it 18 at one of the toughest grounds in England.
Newcastle have had a solid season back in the top flight after spending a year in the Championship, and manager Rafa Benítez has done a great job coaching a squad that is not talented or deep enough to truly compete in the Premier League. He’s done fairly well in games against the Top 6 this season, and he’ll surely be looking to be the first coach to stop Pep Guardiola as a really nice challenge.
It won’t be an easy thing to do, though, and City are massive favorites to win this one. But the end of December is always a tricky period and it seems like the time when the Blues are most likely to lose, and playing a good defensive side like Newcastle in such a difficult atmosphere like St. James’ Park could make this the night when City lose.
Then again, we’ve been thinking they could lose for four months, so they’ll probably just win again. Who knows, though! It’s football!
