Guardiola: Of course Manchester City won’t win the lot

Forget about the quadruple

Leicester City v Manchester City - Carabao Cup Quarter-Final

Pep Guardiola does not expect Manchester City to win the quadruple this season, despite watching his side book their place in the last four of the Carabao Cup.

City needed penalties to see off Leicester City after the game finished 1-1 after extra time.

After the game Pep was asked about the chances of his dominant team winning the Premier League, Champions League and both domestic cups but said it’s not likely.

“That is not going to happen. Of course not,” he said.

“Come on, that isn’t real. What we’re living isn’t real. The situation of winning 16 or 17 games in a row in the league and qualifying for the Champions League before we finished the group stage and now we’re here playing with a lot of young players, that is not normal.

“In football you drop points and you lose competitions. I am not thinking about how many titles, I am thinking about the next game.”

City are still yet to taste defeat this season and remain on track in all competitions but Guardiola is right to play down expectations at this stage.

The club now head into a busy festive schedule with Bournemouth up next, before a trip to Newcastle on the 27th of December and a visit to Selhurst Park on New Year’s Eve.
