Pep Guardiola had some more good news after Saturday’s win over Tottenham Hotspur by giving an optimistic update on the fitness of John Stones.

The centre-back has been out with a hamstring injury picked up in November but Guardiola is hoping he will be ready soon.

“The doctors say between four and six weeks,” he said.

“He's much much better, this weekend will be the fourth week. The doctors say between four and six weeks.

“Hopefully this is the last part. I think in one week, two weeks, he will be ready.”

Stone looks certain to miss the games against Bournemouth and Newcastle but he could possibly return against Crystal Palace or Watford.

He should certainly be fit in time for the trip to Anfield to face Liverpool on 14th January, which may be a big test of City’s defence.
