While the Premier League season is in full swing, the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations will begin on January 14. In the past, Manchester City are used to lose midfielder Yaya Touré, who always went to play for the Ivory Coast, and it was also expected that Kelechi Iheanacho would represent Nigeria this year.
However, the two will stay with City in 2017, as Touré retired from international play last year, and Iheanacho's Nigeria failed to qualify for the tournament. Liverpool don't have the same luck as City and will take the biggest hit of the clubs in the Premier League Top 6, losing both of their biggest offseason transfers: Sadio Mané (Senegal) and Joel Matip (Cameroon).
There will be seven clubs without representation in the tournament, including City, Chelsea, West Bromwich Albion, Tottenham Hotspur, Swansea City, Middlesbrough, and Burnley.
