In his press conference following a five-star Manchester City performance against West Ham United in the FA Cup, manager Pep Guardiola was questioned about his rumored interest in Bayern Munich defender Holger Badstuber.
Recent reports suggest that the German is inching closer to finalizing a loan move to City for the remainder of the season. The 27-year-old formerly played under Pep and when fit, is perfect for the Catalan’s style of football. However, Guardiola has denied any interest in Holger.
“No,” said Pep with a chuckle when asked if he is looking to strengthen the defense with Badstuber.
“Hopefully Vincent can help us but Vincent’s last two years has been like this and we have Nico, John and Kolarov. Of course we have Tosin, but Tosin is still young.
“I know Holger Badstuber is a fantastic player and fantastic guy, but he is a Bayern Munich player. Now we have ten days off until the Everton game so we have time with Txiki and with the club to discuss what is the best for the end of the season.”
Ultimately, it appears that Guardiola has not ruled out a possible move completely, but in this moment Badstuber is staying in Germany.
