Manchester City Transfer Rumors: Pep Guardiola needs defenders, N’Zonzi move unlikely

Great news!

Pep Guardiola has told the media that Manchester City are in need of defenders instead of another midfielder.

In his pre-match press conference ahead of the FA Cup tie against West Ham United, he played down talks of signing Sevilla midfielder Steven N’Zonzi when questioned on the matter.

“It’s not the moment to talk. Sometimes I read the newspapers and since I was manager at Manchester City we have been interested in a thousand million players."

He went on to describe specifically what City requires in the back line.

“We are going to play with the team. If we need something it’s at the back, maybe a central defender or fullback. But the other positions we are covered enough, and next season is next season.”

This news should excite Sky Blue fans. The most significant weakness on the team is undoubtedly in the defense. With a lack of organization and younger fullbacks, the back line is easily exploited. As of recent, the club has been linked to exciting names such as proven Premier League defender Virgil Van Dijk from Southampton.

Other reports suggest that Guardiola is interested in Atletico Madrid nineteen-year-old left back Theo Hernandez, along with his brother, central defender Lucas Hernandez. A rather questionable target that has been brought up in the media is Bayern Munich defender Holger Badstuber. With a poor injury record, this would be the complete opposite of what Pep’s team needs.

The summer transfer window will be crucial for City as their new manager is beginning to decide his wants and needs for his side.
