Manchester City’s hunt for a reliable man between the sticks continues with Jan Oblak being the most recent name thrown into the mix of rumors. The Slovenian keeper has impressed at Atlético Madrid shirt and is attracting interest from the Premier League’s top clubs such as Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United, as well as City.
While the 24-year-old would certainly be a more favorable option than the short-of-confidence Claudio Bravo, his £86.7 million release clause is absolutely outrageous money for a goalkeeper. Despite being a fantastic shot stopper, Oblak does not justify his ridiculous price tag. City could pursue Ederson from Benfica who would be less expensive or activate Geronimo Rulli’s buy back clause for a fraction of the cost.
It is unfortunate that City is in this situation at all since Claudio was a fantastic keeper for Barcelona and his severe drop in form is rather surprising. Unless he finds his feet in the coming weeks, Pep Guardiola will undoubtedly need to sign a replacement.
