According to The Sun, Manchester City are willing to pay Barcelona £100 million for football icon Lionel Messi.

The Etihad has been a rumored destination for Messi if he leaves the Camp Nou, as he and Pep Guardiola were extremely close during Pep’s tenure with the Catalan giants. City’s rich owners have loads of available cash and are willing to splash it on a player of Messi’s caliber.

Additionally, Messi’s Argentina teammates Sergio Agüero, Nicolas Otamendi and Pablo Zabaleta make Manchester even more appealing to the five-time Ballon D’or winner.

Barcelona has given new contract extensions to Luis Suárez and Neymar, but CEO Oscar Grau admitted that the club budget does not have that much room for a lucrative contract extension for Messi.

However, take this rumor with a huge grain of salt. Messi joined Barcelona at 13 years old, and he is still in his prime in the Catalan colors. Furthermore, Barcelona frequently deny that Messi is for sale, and the player wants to retire at the club.

But one can dream, right?
