Ilkay Gundogan has played very good football for Manchester City this season, and he's earned a call to his national team as a result.

Gundogan returns to the national team after almost an entire year, and will play for Germany in the European Qualifiers for the 2018 World Cup against Czech Republic (October 8) and Northern Ireland (October 11).
The City midfielder will be the replacement to Bastian Schweinsteiger, who retired from international duty earlier this month. Gundogan missed Euro 2016 because of a dislocated kneecap, which also caused him to miss the first month of his City career. He made his debut in the Champions League match against Borussia Mönchengladbach, and has made four total appearances so far, playing good football and slotting well into Pep Guardiola's midfield.
City winger Leroy Sané hasn't been called up to the senior squad this time, but will represent the under-21 German side that will face Russia and Austria next week.
