While the German media disagrees, Pep Guardiola did an amazing job at Bayern Munich. He dominated the Bundesliga and reached the Champions League semifinals in all three seasons in Germany, and turned Bayern into a beautiful machine that used Pep Ball combined with the German efficiency to play fantastic football for three years.
One of Guardiola's best players during his time in Germany was Xabi Alonso, who arrived from Real Madrid at the start of Pep's second season and became a midfield boss at the Bavarians, and he and Guardiola had a special relationship, two people who think football in a similar way and enjoyed their training sessions and games together.
Alonso was one of the many Bayern player who publicly defended Guardiola when the German media criticized Pep, and he continues to praise the Catalan manager even though Guardiola is now at Manchester City. Alonso has noticed the perfect start with ten wins from ten games while playing great football, and the Spaniard did not take long to hail the City coach for his job in England.
"Pep has a natural talent to understand football and to then transform that understanding on to his players. He likes to have the ball and for his players to show courage and you can just feel this.
"What he has done at Manchester City over the past two months is amazing. The desire his players have to prove themselves to the fans and the coach is the result of Pep's work. He is very demanding and methodical.”
Alonso also discussed Guardiola's time in Germany, and even though his job isn't viewed as a real success because he couldn't win the Champions League there, Xabi thinks Pep's three-year run in Bavaria was very good.
"His farewell at Bayern was very emotional for all the fans, players and all staff. That just went to show what he meant for Bayern and achieved here. His time at Bayern was a success and everybody is very grateful."
