Pep Guardiola is targeting a move for Juventus center-back Leonardo Bonucci in the January transfer window, according to multiple reports in England. The Manchester City manager wanted the Italian defender in the summer, but ultimately decided to go with Everton rising star John Stones for the moment.

Guardiola wanted to see if Vincent Kompany could recover from his injury and be able to play consistently for the Sky Blues this season. However, in light of a new physical problem sustained by the City captain in the EFL Cup match against Swansea City last Wednesday, the Catalan manager will be looking to bring a new defender, and Bonucci is his favorite target.

The 29-year-old Italy international is regarded as one of the best center-backs in world football, and he was very close to moving to England in the summer. New Chelsea manager Antonio Conte wanted Bonucci to join the Blues, and City were also linked with the player for many weeks. He ultimately decided to stay with the Bianconeri, but if Guardiola comes with a new offer, he might change his mind.
