Three very important members of the Manchester City squad have been dealing with injuries, but they're either fully fit or very close to it now.

Pep Guardiola spoke to the press on Monday ahead of City's Champions League group stage opening match against Borussia Mönchengladbach, and before talking about the game, the Catalan manager provided updates on the injury status of his most important players.

First, Sergio Agüero, who missed the Manchester Derby through suspension but was also nursing a calf injury. According to Pep, Kun will play against Gladbach.

Quick, simple and very pleasing. Pep then talked about Ilkay Gundogan and Vincent Kompany, who are yet to feature this season because of injury. Gundogan is coming back from a knee problem, while Kompany is working on healing his groin.

According to Guardiola, both City stars are very close to making their season debut:

“Gundogan every day and every week is much, much better. Vincent is in the same situation - he’s training hard. All of the players who didn’t face United did hard training and he trained really good. They are almost there to help us play the next six games in the next 18 days.”

The last sentence is very important. Starting with the Gladbach game, City will play six matches until October 2nd, when a game against Tottenham Hotspur sends the players into the international break. Having all the members of the squad healthy will be vital to have a strong team throughout the marathon, and both Gundogan and Kompany definitely add depth and quality to the City group.
