Manchester City announced on Thursday the official squad numbers for the 2016/17 season, and there are two big news.
Joe Hart's departure left the No. 1 shirt open for a goalkeeper, and new signing Claudio Bravo decided to take the numbers he's used to wear for the Chilean national team. Ilkay Gundogan did not have a number yet, so he takes over Samir Nasri's #8 shirt. Gundogan has always used that number in his Borussia Dortmund career, so it's only natural he chooses it for the City season.
Everybody else keeps their number, since the FA rules doesn't allow a player's number to be changed after being registered. The list below, released by City, shows the numbers and also how the player's names will appear at the back. You can check the full list with EDS and Academy players, but we won't include most of them since they aren't likely to play this season.
