The Premier League opening weekend is just seven days away, and Manchester City have a final dress rehearsal before facing Sunderland next week. The Citizens travel to Gothenburg for a date with Arsenal, and Pep Guardiola has called his squad for the friendly.
It's a list with a few surprising from the coach. Guardiola called only 23 players, four of them from the academy, and the Catalan left a few first team players in Manchester. Samir Nasri, Eliaquim Mangala, Wilfried Bony and Nicolas Otamendi are not on the list, a clear message from Pep that he might not count on these four to play for him.
New signing Leroy Sané will miss the friendly with a slight hamstring problem, but he's expected to be healthy for next weekend. Only Ilkay Gundogan and Vincent Kompany are long-term injury problems, and aren't expected back until the end of the month.
These are the 23 players called up by Pep to be in uniform in Sweden:
Goalkeepers: Joe Hart, Willy Caballero
Defenders: Bacary Sagna, Pablo Zabaleta, Aleksandar Kolarov, Gael Clichy, Jason Denayer, Tosin Adarabioyo, Pablo Maffeo, Angeliño Tasende
Midfielders: Fernando, Kevin De Bruyne, Fabian Delph, David Silva, Fernandinho, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Yaya Touré, Aleix García
Forwards: Raheem Sterling, Nolito, Sergio Agüero, Jesus Navas, Kelechi Iheanacho
