Pep Guardiola is looking forward to his first Champions League in charge of Manchester City.
The Catalan manager spoke to the press on Friday to preview the Premier League game against West Ham United, but he also took the time to give his take on the insane European Cup draw that put City in the Group of Death, facing Celtic FC, Borussia Mönchengladbach, and more notably Pep's former club, Barcelona.
Guardiola spoke about the draw and says he knows it will be a special night, but having already come back with Bayern Munich in 2015, it will be a different experience this time around:
“We’ll have to make our best performance to go through to the next stage. I know Barcelona quite well and Borussia Monchengladbach. I have a lot of respect for Celtic. They have a lot of experience in Europe.
“I cannot deny it’s something special for me to return to Barcelona - I grew up there, to play there at 13 to become a footballer. Most of my life I spent there, I know the people, the club, the media, most of the players - the emotion is there but it happened with Bayern last season.
“If I continue to train at a high level and if we are lucky to be in the Champions League again, it will happen again in the future. The first time it’s ‘wow’ the second time it’s the second time, then it’s normal.”
