Ahead of Manchester City's season debut in the Premier League, two important first team players are not expected to play against Sunderland on Saturday.
Pep Guardiola spoke in a press conference on Friday, and while he did confirm that new signing John Stones is ready to face the Black Cats, another new signing cannot play due to injury.
"[Leroy] Sané didn’t train with us, he’s out – in the next week I think he’ll start to train."
Former Schalke 04 attacker and one of City's most exciting signings, Leroy Sané came in with a slight hamstring problem and has yet to train with the squad. The injury isn't serious, and as Pep said, the young German should be back in training by next week.
Another injury concern is center-back Nicolas Otamendi, who has a knock. Pep didn't confirm whether he's in or out, but it's safe to assume he won't be facing Sunderland with Guardiola instead choosing to save him for the Champions League Playoffs, on Tuesday against Steaua Bucharest:
“Nicolas is much, much better – he had a problem with his tendon. He will be fit but we have a little, little eye on the game in Romania so we’ll see tomorrow whether he’ll play against Sunderland."
Captain Vincent Kompany is also out, and his return isn't expected until September. Other than those three, there are no injuries to worry about ahead of a big game to kick off the season.
