You won't need to wait to see John Stones play in a Manchester City shirt.
Pep Guardiola confirmed on his pre-match press conference on Friday that the newest City signing will be available to play and is likely to start in the Citizens' Premier League opening match, on Saturday against Sunderland. Stones took part in a big portion of preseason with Everton before he moved to the Sky Blues, meaning he's physically ready for the game.
But doesn't Stones need some time to know his teammates and learn Pep's style? Not according to the coach:
“He’s fit – he played four, five, six friendly games with Ronald Koeman at Everton. Stones has had a lack of time with his teammates but he reads the game so there are people who are intelligent. He reads what’s going on and what he needs to do – I think he’s ready."
But wait, there's more praise for Stones:
“Finally we could pick John Stones up and it’s important for us to have a young, English player with a huge talent. Not just to defend but for the build-up, his intelligence and the ability to play through the lines. He’s a good, good player."
Pep is really, really, really excited about Stones. And you know that when Pep likes a player, he will turn that player into a world-class footballer.
