Pep Guardiola's arrival can change not only the future of Manchester City, but that of English football as a whole. At least that's what one of the best players in history thinks, anyway.
Xavi Hernández, the best midfielder of our generation who completely dominated his position when working with Guardiola at Barcelona, spoke in an interview with Qatar media about his former coach's move to the Citizens. Pep will certainly implement his style of play into his team, and hope it can lead to success.
But in Xavi's mind, the success of Pep's style might have an effect in the entire Premier League, and we could see a new way of looking at football in England after Guardiola.
“It is a big opportunity for him at Manchester City. I think he will change the face of English football. If there is anyone capable of changing that mentality, it is Guardiola.
“It is a great opportunity, but there will also be a lot of pressure, because everyone always expects a lot from Pep Guardiola. But he is without doubt one of the best coaches in the world at the moment.”
Guardiola would certainly love to have Xavi playing on his City midfield, and he is even looking for a player with similar traits: Borussia Dortmund star Ilkay Gundogan appears to be the choice, but Real Madrid's Toni Kroos and Arsenal's Jack Wilshere have also emerged as candidates for "Xavi of City". If Pep lands one, he might just change England's way of playing football.
