As the Manchester City academy continues to grow and develop great young players, they should begin to shine under the new manager.
That's according to departing manager Manuel Pellegrini, who spoke in interview about incoming manager Pep Guardiola. After Kelechi Iheanacho became a key first team player under the Chilean, there is a plan for other young academy players to get more chances in the main squad. And Pellegrini is very confident Guardiola will develop the youth stars into big stars.
The "Charming Man" also talked briefly about Guardiola, and he's expecting nothing but success for the new City coach.
“I think in the next years you will see some players from the academy.
“Remember this club started the real process to become a big team in the last eight years. When you are trying to have a big squad at the beginning, maybe the young players must be postponed a while.
“Now we are working well in all the young divisions, we made it to the [FA Youth Cup] final against Chelsea this season. So I am sure you will see young players soon playing in the first squad.
“I am sure Guardiola will be a very successful manager.
“I haven’t spoken to Guardiola, I don’t think that we need to speak. He knows what this club is perfectly, he has friends inside here. He is a very important manager in Europe so I am sure he will have all the information.”
